Tom Howard joined Tribal Capital Markets as a Director in Municipal Sales in July 2018 and will work with of the Municipal Capital Markets Group to help develop distribution expertise for the growing municipal fixed income department. His responsibilities include institutional account coverage including mutual funds, insurance companies, banks and other professional money managers in support of the underwriting and trading desks.
Mr. Howard started his career at the Northern Trust Company working in the bond department as a fixed income salesperson covering banks, insurance companies, trust departments and corporate money managers selling municipal bonds, U.S. treasury’s, agency securities, commercial paper and bank CD’s. In 1985 he moved to B.C. Ziegler and Company to join a growing Capital Markets Group and was responsible for national institutional sales coverage for the firm’s negotiated and competitive underwritings as well working extensively in the secondary market. Other areas of responsibility have included providing underwriting support to the desk, pricing the $1.5 billion VRDB book, managing reinvestment of bond proceeds for issuing clients, bidding treasury bond portfolios for refunding issues and working with investment bankers making presentations to prospective clients. In 2009 he moved full time to the fixed income underwriting position and was responsible for all tax exempt and taxable underwritings for the firm as well as working as the syndicate manager on both senior and co-managed issues for the firm. During the course of his career Tom has worked nationally on hundreds of complex financings totaling over $50.0 billion in par amount in both his sales and underwriting capacities. Some of the sectors he has worked in include healthcare, senior living, higher education, general municipal finance, charter schools, housing, transportation, project finance including renewable energy projects.
Tom graduated from St. Norbert College with Bachelors of Business Administration degree in Marketing and Finance, is a member of the Chicago Municipal Bond Club and other professional organizations.
