Mr. Barry has nearly 20 years of experience in developing Financial Services sales and trading operations from the startup phase to profitable, mature businesses.
He has previously served as an underwriter and trader of callable structured debt with firms such as Mizuho Securities, ABN-AMRO/LaSalle National Bank. John founded and ran divisions of Amherst Securities, Sovereign Bank and AK Capital. While at Sovereign Bank, his underwriting team consistently funded the bank with $10-20BB annually in deposits. In 2003, he pioneered the use of callable agency step-up structures to minimize interest rate risk underwriting $8BB in 2003 alone.
In 2005, he founded Bonds.com, the first "All to All" FINRA registered broker/dealer and licensed Alternative Trading System. As Chairman and CEO, he ushered the company from inception to publicly traded entity, developing relationships and adding 2200 customer accounts in a 2-year span. Bonds.com was subsequently acquired by the London Stock Exchange in 2014.
Mr. Barry has distinguished himself as a top 20 Global GSE Underwriter over multiple years and continues to thrive as a middle market and wholesale distributor of multiple classes of debt. He has been a speaker at Conferences such the American Bankers Association, Government Finance Officer Association, Credit Union Services Organization and the Native American Finance Officers Association.
John, along with Alan Mele, founded Tribal Capital Partners, the holding company of Tribal Capital Markets, LLC as a partnership with Morongo to bring financial services to the American Indian community. John's current role at the firm is Co-Managing day to day operations across all business lines at the direction of the Board of Managers. Mr. Barry also is responsible for vetting any New Business Initiatives on behalf of Morongo as well as ensuring that the firm’s growth strategy meets their objectives.
In late 2001 Mr. Barry Co-founded the WTC Foundation (World Trade Children), a charity that raised money for the families of Sandler O’Neill, Cantor Fitzgerald and Keefe Bruyette and Woods. John has also served on the Board of Trustees of his high school alma mater, SCH Academy, and is an active member of the Navy Seal Foundation Host Committee.
Mr. Barry holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Georgetown University.
